JJsHouse Wedding Dress Honest Review

I started the search for a perfect wedding dress in early 2016 and came upon JJsHouse. I wanted a dress on budget, but I also had very high taste. I looked at the regular vendors and even designer brands which at all at $800 above and nothing stroke my fancy.

I decided to order this gown:

The dress is listed as $196 at the time and it was $20 to customize it.  I am fairy short, so I customized it by entering my complete measurement.

If you want the dress customized, it will take an extra week. I ordered on Jan 7, 2016 and it send me a shipment notification Jan 16, 2016 and it arrived a week later with expedited shipping (Extra $24.99)

It came in a very compact box. (I lost the photos I took as my old phone broke and somehow it was not uploaded to my Google photo.) But the box was so small that I was not able to put half of the dress back in after I unboxed it!😓😮

My first reaction is it was heavy! I was very worried about the cheap filmsy quality, but it turned out to be in excellent fabric (satin).

All the beads were just as pictures. I was very happy. But when I tried it on. It was way too big and hard to hold because it was so heavy and it had no boning. So despite having it "customize made," I still needed to alter it. I guess it's good to have more fabric you need than less.

I did find a very professional wedding dress alternation person in my area (Toronto at the time). We did:

  • Add boning (The hard sticks that hold the dress up on the side and make it easier to shape for your body)
  • Hemming the dress slightly
  • Add bustle
  • Make it smaller at the bust and waist.
That costed me $350, but it was worth it. I heard stories of people paying much more to get it done.  I also need the dress quick. She did it in 3 days!

After alteration: Front and back with bustle done

On my wedding day (The dress was steam ironed)

It held all the way through my dance.
My rating of the dress from JJsHouse:

Quality ★★  5/5

I have to say was very, very surprised by the quality of the dress. The fabric was heavy and the satin was very smooth. I am not sure if I ordered a chiffon dress, it the quality will be the same.

Likeness to the picture★★  5/5

The dress looked like the pictures online. Some small difference can be seen, but overall you are not getting cheated with this dress. Again, I heard some very bad reviews of people's dress doesn't match the description. So it might be a case by case basis. All I can say is that this particular dress I ordered looked the same as the picture. I was not disappointed.

Fit ★✩ 3/5

Don't expect your dress to fit out of the box. Just remember you will still need to alter your wedding dress no matter what. So if I knew, I would just went with the standard size and save the $20. However, I heard that some tailor charge each alteration items separately. So if you are short, it might worth it to hem it. Although my alteration lady still needed to hem the dress slightly.

Ordering Process and Shipping  ✩ 4/5

Ordering the dress was easy. Shipping was fast. However, it is shipped through DHL (duty tax applies) I cannot remember how much I paid. I am sure I paid about $40 duty tax to ship it to Canada, which was a huge bummer.

In conclusion, I was pleasant surprised with my dress, especially after reading a lot of negative reviews about the site.

*I also bought a super cheap gown from ModCloth on sale for my city hall wedding (US visa reasons) I will post something about it too.

Have you purchased from JJsHouse for a wedding gown? Please let me know your experience!
